Question by : Is this small tale any excellent or should I give up on writing?
I finally had an thought for a tale today, and I haven’t written in years. Do I have any potential to write or an I kidding myself? I want honest critiques to this small tale please.

Copyright 2011 by Randy Lee Rykse – Seamus

-Seamus-

“Deana, will you marry me?” said Seamus, in the classic one knee, marriage proposal-pose. He waited in a silence that felt shockingly suffocating.

Deana was the type of woman men peer at and feel a deep, nearly primal sexual attraction. Slutty isn’t the term, and it’s something that not all women have… you can just look at them and they make you reckon sex. Anyhow, tall, brunette, green eyes, with legs all the way to heaven.

“Oh my gawd, Shamey… please don’t do this to me right now, just not soon so, my gosh I don’t even know where to – please, leave. I need to reckon.” Deana hisses and turns his back to him.

A look of pure agony flashed across Seamus’ face, but quickly changes to one of desperation. He gets up and pulls Deana’s shoulder, which is quickly jerked away.

“Please don’t make me wait. Either you like me or you don’t, it’s so simple to me. I know I like you, without any doubt. I feel it, don’t you?” A single tear streamed quickly down his cheek, before being swallowed by a forest of facial hair.

Deana spun around, face reddened with rage and frustration. Her arms flailed above her head in Kermit-like fashion, and she started to unravel.

“God DAMMIT, Seamus! I don’t know if I feel it, so what does that mean? Just leave!” she screeched, and pushed Seamus to the door of their apartment. He stumbled and crashed shoulder first into the door, grabbed the knob and stammered out, stunned. The door slammed harshly behind him.
He stood at their doorway for over a minute, staring at the welcome mat that read ‘Pleased Holidays”. All he was thinking was, why in the hell did we get a doormat for a fucking 3rd floor apartment? At last he turned and walked the three flights down to his fiery orange 2011 Mustang. Two quick beeps allowed him entry, and off he went, west on the highway to his ancient apartment, of which he was now glad the lease had a month left on it still. He turned the radio up to try and clear his head. Maybe some country…

“I got a groundbreaking new girlfriend!
We went and jumped off the deep end…
flew out to L.A. for the weeken-“

Seamus turned the volume knob down on the car stereo so forcibly that it now lay on the floor near his feet. He started bawling uncontrollably, but was near his home so he just fought through the tears, making it safely into his studio apartment with no lights or heat.

He sat in the only piece of furniture left, a raggedy ancient recliner that no longer reclined. His right hip was being dug upon by a piece of equipment he used with care at his job, as a local and relatively successful homicide detective. He pulled it out of the holster and held it in his hands.

After two failed marriages and how madly in like he is with Deana, not to mention the pressures from a job that made him feel empty inside, he felt the weight of the gun in his hands and it felt weird. It no longer felt like a tool to protect himself and others with, the weight in his hands felt like cold, heavy, and above all final, relief.

He squeezed the handle tightly as if to muster up the courage, took two small but deep breaths and in one quick motion place the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

***

Seamus sat dead in his ancient recliner; his body slumped slightly to the side allowing a pool of blood to collect next to the chair. ‘Terrible Boys’ theme from the show ‘Cops’ was playing over and over in his jean pocket, Deana was yelling and banging outside the door, saying how she could hear his cell phone ringing, she wasn’t stupid.

“Come ON Seamus! I was just frightened before, let’s talk about this! I like you! Please just answer the door; you’re starting to worry me… ”

-End-

As a mathematician might say, no.

Keep working at it. The plot is a small melodramatic and you tell rather than show a small too often. Some of the emotional description is overwrought.

Develop your style and you might come up with better works.

Citizen Reporter @ FEMA Region VI Questions Questions / IDS Taken / Interview Denied / DHS Dispatched

Alex Ansary youtube.com/alexansary December 14, 2011 Recently I and another concerned Dallas area resident visited FEMA’s Region VI which is located at 800 S. Loop 288 Denton, TX. The purpose of our visit was to find out what the facility is used for and what it’s not used for. We know that our government has many of these ‘centers’ around the nation. The recent news about provisions within the new National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 as well as revelations about KBR activating FEMA camps nationwide sparked our initial interest in whether or not there was ‘increased’ activity at this facility. We chose to find out for ourselves what it would be like to try and interface with some FEMA employees by asking some simple questions. Our presence alerted security who then proceeded to question us for identification of which we eventually complied to avoid a complicated and unnecessary situation. Our information was “processed” as we were told by the head of security that a PR spokeswoman was on her way down. After a half hour wait and continued explanation of our presence, we were greeted by several spokeswomen after they first having a private meeting with a member of the upper management that was overseeing their actions. We were told that this was not a time where a interview could be conducted but that they would contact me later for public tour of the facility including a part of the underground command center. Upon departing the facility and heading back to our

Answer by Sigi H
That cannot be accurately answered. There are too many variables.

The radio won’t work when in a tunnel IF you try to communicate with the surface for instance. In a huge city with lots of tall buildings the range is limited due to all the obstructions.

But – suppose you are on a high point like on a mountain to or high building, then the range increases dramatically. The radio falls into the Lower UHF range and the transmission therefore mostly follows the line of sight rule.

What is channels? In this case it is narrow band FM limited to deviation or modulation of 5kHz (5000Hz) on any channel carrier.

7 channels means that you have 7 different carrier frequencies available to choose from. They minimum spacing of or between the channels has to be 10Kz……. 462.855MHz, 462.865MHz, 482.875MHz etc. Some radios have a different spacing between channels…. according to their special purposes.

Question by Franko Rizzo: Is it just me, or are there insanely more commercials on AM talk radio than other stations?
I have 4 AM talk radio channels programmed into my car radio–two conservative, one liberal and one a bit of both. Either way, it seems like their on commercial more than they really talk? Far, far, more than FM radio. Also, far more than the sports channel I have on AM as well.

What’s the deal? has anyone else noticed this.
